Mosques to get charging stations for battery-powered disabled chairs…

The Presidency of Religious Affairs will set up smart charging stations at mosques for battery-powered chairs used by disabled citizens.

In addition to spiritual guidance and counseling services for disabled citizens, the Presidency of Religious Affairs made 40 thousand mosques accessible to disabled citizens to ensure they are not deprived of the spiritual atmosphere of mosques. This time, the Presidency of Religious Affairs continues its services in this field by setting up charging stations for battery-powered chairs used by physically handicapped citizens.

Pilot practice to start in 8 cities

The pilot practice of the project, for which the preparations have been finalized, will start in 8 cities. Charging stations will be set up at Ahmet Hamdi Akseki and Hacı Bayram Mosques in Ankara, at Sultanahmet, Fatih, and Ataşehir Mimar Sinan Mosques in Istanbul, at Konak Mosque in İzmir, at Emir Sultan and Ulu Mosque in Bursa, at Hacı Mehmet Özkan Mosque in Kayseri, at Büyük Mosque in Samsun, at Alabey Mosque in Gaziantep, and at Berat Mosque in Diyarbakır.

Having launched numerous projects for disabled people including religious publications, special courses, and khutbahs in sign language, the Presidency of Religious Affairs’ goal with this project is to create an opportunity for physically-handicapped citizens to have easier access to mosques and be more involved in social life. The project will make the batter power constantly available from a station for disabled citizens who use electric chairs.

Opportunity to access religious information

The station can charge three batteries at once and also includes a digital system that contains religious information. As citizens charge their chairs, they can recite and listen to the Holy Quran on the digital screen and have access to religious information like Quran translation, hadith, and fiqh in different languages. The station also has stories and tales for children as well as content prepared in sign language.

The charging station also features audio and visual content. It will have directions and address descriptions with sound and in sign language as well as navigation that enables easier access to organizations and institutions.
