Burhan İŞLEYEN

Vice President of Religious Affairs

Born in 1969 in Erzincan, Kemah district, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burhan İşliyen completed his primary and secondary education in Kemah. He graduated from Kemah Imam-Khatib High School in 1987. In the same year, he entered Samsun 19 Mayıs University Faculty of Theology. After 2 years, he transferred to Marmara University Faculty of Theology, where he graduated in 1992. He completed his master's degree at Erciyes University Institute of Social Sciences in the Department of Sufism and his doctorate at Cumhuriyet University Institute of Social Sciences in the Department of Tafsir with his thesis on “Kur’an-ı Kerim Açısından Dünyevileşme, Sebep ve Sonuçları (Worldliness, Its Causes and Consequences in terms of the Holy Qur'an)”. He worked as a teacher in Hatay (Altınözü), Kayseri (İncesu), Malatya (Yeşilyurt) between 1992-99. He won the mufti exam opened by the Presidency of Religious Affairs in 1997 and served as the district mufti of Doğanşehir district in Malatya and then in Üzümlü district in Erzincan. In 2003, he served as the deputy provincial mufti of Erzincan; and between 2009 and 2018 he served as the provincial mufti of Erzincan, Afyonkarahisar and Diyarbakır. On 19.02.2018, he was appointed as Vice President of Religious Affairs.

Burhan İşliyen is married, has 4 children and speaks Arabic.
