The Month of Ramadan Message by the President of Religious Affairs Erbaş

Friday, April 1, 2022

We are happy and excited to reach the month of Ramadan which is the manifestation of Allah the Exalted (swt)’s endless mercy, broad remission, and forgiveness. We will experience the peace of reviving this moral climate with the permission and mercy of Allah (swt) together inshallah, which beautifies our world of heart, makes its peace and abundance felt in everywhere from our homes, to streets, mosques to marketplaces.

Endless praise to Allah the Exalted (swt) who rejoins us with the holy month of Ramadan again by creating ease with hardship, relief with trouble and healing with illness.

Ramadan, first of all, is a month of Qur’an. The Holy Qur’an, which was sent as a source of salvation, mercy and healing for the humanity, was sent down in this month. Our Exalted Book, which started to be sent down in the Lailat al-Qadr which is better than a thousand months, became water of life for the hearts that had become arid with the roasting effect of sin and flame of rebellion and rejoined humanity which had lost in the dark of ignorance, forgotten the meaning of its creation and been alienated to itself and Allah (swt) with its disposition again.

The month of Ramadan which became blessed with Qur’an and includes many worships within itself is a time of worship and contemplation. Fasting is the leading worship pertaining to this month.  As a matter of fact, Allah the Exalted (swt) says that those who reach to the month of Ramadan must spend this month with fasting.” The Almighty Allah (swt) also remarked that fasting is a worship that keeps the sense of responsibility alive with the following verse, “O believers! Fasting is prescribed for you—as it was for those before you—so perhaps you will become mindful of Allah,”(Al-Baqarah, 183). The Messenger of Allah (saw) emphasized the aspect of fasting that purifies and heals the heart of human being with the following hadith: “Whoever establishes prayers during the nights of Ramadan faithfully out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah's rewards (not for showing off), all his past sins will be forgiven."

The month of Ramadan that Allah’s (swt) blessing and mercy rain upon the believers as a shower is a season of forgiveness and remission in its fullest sense. Our Beloved Prophet (saw) gave the following regarding this month, “when the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained.” Therefore, the month of Ramadan as a period of time that heading to the good deeds are more virtuous than ever is a unique opportunity for us to face ourselves, get together with our book, review our lives, and turn towards the Almighty Allah (swt) by completely redeeming our mistakes and sins. Thus, we must read Qur’an a lot, pray, repent and pray for forgiveness by contemplating and discussing in addition to fasting in this month.

On the other hand, the month of Ramadan is a season of sharing, helping each other and solidarity. Sadaqah al-fitr, zakat, and sadaqah that we will give, and all the good deeds that we do in this month is a debt of gratitude for the countless blessings that the Almighty Allah (swt) have bestowed upon us. For this reason, it must be our primary duty to help our needy brothers and sister, poor people, and orphans, and to meet their needs in these days that the good deeds are rewarded so much more. It will be the greatest achievement for us to be able to cease the troubles of our brothers and sisters who set their hope on us and expect a helping hand from us. Let us not forget that our zakats, sadaqah al-fitrs, sadaqahs and all of our good deeds are the sign of our sincerity, loyalty and righteousness to our faith and the Almighty Allah (swt). Undoubtedly, the Almighty Allah (swt) will reward us all much more than what we give with the blessings of Ramadan. The month of Ramadan that we will revive with these awareness, undoubtedly, will give us a strong stand to us against troubles and negativities of the world. Undistinguished belief, sincerity, perseverance, continuity in our worships will reach us to endless mercy, remission and compassion of the Allah (swt).

With these feelings and thoughts, may the Almighty Allah (swt) let the month of Ramadan, which is the month of mercy, bring a refreshing breath to our hearts, peace and abundance to our houses and blessings to our country and the Islamic World, let our good deeds and duas lead to the salvation of all of the humanity, and turn all the world to a place of peace and soundness with the Ramadan-i Sharif.
