President of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş has attended the "Commemoration Ceremony for the Month of Muharram and Karbala".

President of Religious Affairs Erbaş, in his speech during the ceremony which was organized by the Presidency of Religious Affairs, General Directorate of Religious Services, by stating that the Month of Muharram is one of the four months that is ordered to be paid respect in the Noble Quran, has said "The month of Muharram was described by our beloved Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) as "Month of Allah(SWT)" by referring to its merit, divine cue, and abundance of its blessings. This month which had been many significant events of the history of prophets has a distinguished place in the faith and heart domains of Muslims".

President Erbaş, stating that “Muharram” means “the one be respected”, has said "The Month of Ramadan, due to the wisdom it includes is a moth which deserves to be respected. Our Beloved Prophet (saw) ordered that fasting during the Ashura day which is the 10th day of Muharram by including the two days before and after it is most beneficent fasting other than the month of Ramadan”.

“The Month of Muharram reminds us the unnameable sorrow once more”

President Erbaş, stating that the Month of Muharram is also the first month of the Hijri (hegira) calendar, said that "Ten days ago since it was the 1st day of Muharram we have realized the 1444th Hijri (hegira) year and commemorated Hejira (Hegira). Hegira is the beginning of the transformation of Yathrib to Al-Madīnah Al-Munawarah. On the other hand, the month of Muharram is the month when the martyrdom and sorrow of Hussain(Radhi Allahu Anh) who is the noble member of Ahl al-Bayt and his companion are commemorated again”.

President Erbaş said that on the 10th day of the Month of Muharram in the year of Hijri (hegira) 61, Hussain who was one of the most beloved grandsons of our Beloved Prophet and nearly seventy believers most of whom were from Ahl al-Bayt were martyred cruelly in Karbala has stated that:

“The month of Muharram reminds us of the unnameable sorrow once again. Today a deep sadness covers our hearts again. Our beloved one Hussain is the beautiful grandson of our Prophet who was honored with his praise, relation, and affinity. Already the meaning of his name is "the beautiful one". Hassan means "the beautiful one" and also Hussain means “the beautiful one”. It is narrated that when Hussain enters the Masjid our Beloved Prophet (Messenger of Allah) said "Whoever would like to see the master of youth in Heaven, take a look at Hussain”. Also in another hadith, our Beloved Prophet (saw), by referring to Hassan and Hussain who were the beloved sons of Ali and Fatima has stated that “Whoever loves them will love me, whoever hates them will hate me".

“Paying respect to Ahl al-Bayt is the responsibility of all the Muslims”

President Erbaş, highlighting the fact that the Ahl al-Bayt of the Messenger of Allah our Beloved Prophet Muhammed (P.b.u.h) is a valuable trust to all the Muslims, has said that “To love them and to follow their path is a trust for all the believer and the UMMAH. To pay them respect is the responsibility of all Muslims. Loving them is a manifestation of love for Allah. Thus, our Beloved Prophet Muhammed (saw) had stated on this topic that ‘Love Allah (SWT) because Allah (SWT) feed you with the blessings. Love me for the sake of the love of Allah. And love my Ahl al-Bayt for the sake of my love.’

President Erbaş by reminding us that our Beloved Prophet Muhammad had named Hussain and praised him as “master of the youth in Heaven” has said that “Unfortunately, Hussain was betrayed in Karbala. For 1400 years, on each anniversary we remember this grief, Hussain, and his sacrifice in the cruelest event of history. Karbala has become the common expression of the same grief and sorrow for all the Muslims regardless of their geography, race, sect, and culture".

“Karbala is the name of an honored struggle against injustice”

President Erbaş, by highlighting that the Karbala event has some messages crossing the epochs beyond a historical tragedy and represents the steadfast stance of the Muslim character against unjustness, has said:

“Karbala is the name of an honored struggle against injustice. Karbala is the symbol of the "pacta sund servanda” (agreements that must be kept) principle, loyalty, and faithfulness to the promise. Karbala is an example of a brave and determined stance against unjustness. It is the symbol of a noble walk in the name of the right truth, fidelity, and faithfulness against all kinds of oppression. Karbala is the location where justice, courage, braveness, and high ethics were embodied by the personality of Hussain.  The ones who rendered and honored the struggle against oppression and injustice, have captured a distinguished place in the broad hearts of the ones who walk on the path of Allah(SWT).

However, the ones who tortured the noble people to martyrdom have been condemned in the dark pages of history forever. And the oppressors will pay for their acts in the Hereafter.”

“We should be aware of the plans to transform the Islam geography into Karbala”

President Erbaş, stressing that the Muslims must take lessons from the experiences of Karbala, has stated the warnings below:

“Today the world of Islam is in a season of sorrow. Together with the sorrow of Karbala that hurts believing hearts, the wars, occupations, poverty, loneliness, and other similar difficulties that is incurred by the world of Islam has transformed the geography of Islam into a land of sorrow.  While our hearts are full of sorrow with the grief of Hussain and his friends who were martyred for the sake of political ambitions, the flames of unrest, discord, and terror continue to burn the people in the Islamic geography.

The Muslims who took lessons from Karbala should not have fallen into such a state, however as you see, Karbalas still continue in the Islamic geography, and Muslim lands and we must put an end to that. The Muslims who took a lesson from Karbala should not fall into such a state.

To put it more explicitly, today, plans are made to transform all the Islam geography into Karbala, highlighting the minor differences between the Muslims as a reason for fighting. As if the current events, fights, and wars are not enough, new plans are made to increase and multiply these events, fights, and wars. I would like to state one more time that all the Islam geography should be aware of these plans.”

President Erbaş, by pointing out the significance of acting with foresight and insight against the traps of all kinds of unrest and discord, has stated that  “We have to read the historical sorrowful events such as Karbala correctly, act in common sense and overcome the unrests that are happening today. We must absolutely listen to the order of our Almighty Allah (SWT), ‘Obey Allah and His Messenger and do not dispute with one another, or you would be discouraged and weakened. Persevere! Surely Allah is with those who persevere.’  We must adhere to the values which keep us together and keep away from all kinds of discourse and acts which may harm our brotherhood and attachment”.

President Erbaş who has stated that we must make our best efforts in order to dominate the values represented by Hussain in his life time has ended his speech as follows:

“Today the duty falls on all of us is to read Karbala correctly, to understand it precisely, and to take the necessary lessons from it. We should struggle and make our best efforts on the righteous path of Allah undauntedly and bravely. To help each other, solidarity and co-work and cooperation is one of our most significant duties for the sake of the peace and tranquillity of the Islamic world and all humanity.

I would like to take this occasion to commemorate all the Karbala martyrs beginning from Hussain who is the esteemed grandson of our Beloved Prophet(saw) and the sons of Ali and Fatima and the ones who sacrifice their lives for the sake of religion, faith, and sacred values in the path of right and truth.

May the Almighty Allah (SWT) make the Month of Muharram conduce to the end of all unrest and discord, chaos and fights and reinforcement of peace and brotherhood and make the Ashura day as a ground for the unity of all the Muslims. May the Almighty Allah (SWT) make our unity, togetherness, and brotherhood permanent."

In the program which was broadcasted live from the Diyanet TV channel, the Quran has been recited, salawats, epicedes, and muharramys have been read. Dr. Şaban Kondi, General Director of Religious Services of the Presidency of Religious Affairs has delivered dua.
