Dr. Lütfi DOĞAN

Dr. Lütfi DOĞAN (26.08.1972–26.07.1976)

Dr. Lütfi Doğan was born in Ermenek in 1927.After finishing primary, secondary and high school; he graduated from Dil ve Tarih-Coğrafya (Language and History-Geography) Faculty Department of Classical Oriental languages (Arabic and Persian). Then he studied Arabic and Islamic Sciences at the Faculty of Literature in Damascus, Syria. In 1952 he became a research assistant of theological philosophy at Ankara University Faculty of Theology where he earned his doctorate in  “En-Nizâm Fi Usuli’d- Din ve Eş’ari Ekolü”. He worked as a regional preacher in Ankara, mufti of Ankara, was a member ofAdvisory and Religious Works Inspection Board and a member of the High Board of Religious Affairs. In the meantime, he continued to lecture in Arabic and Principles of Islam at Ankara University Faculty of Theology. He was appointed President of Religious Affairs in 1972. In 1975, he enabled the establishment of Turkish Religious Foundation with his colleagues and provincial muftis.

In 1976, he left the Directorate of Religious Affairs and was appointed as a senior consultant at the prime minister’s office. He was elected a member of parliament for Malatya in 1977 elections. He was appointed State Minister in charge of the directorate of Religious Affairs in the government formed after the elections. Some of his well-known printed books are “Eş’ari’s School”, “ İbn-i Fadlan’s travel book”, “Prophet Muhammad”, “Ehli Sunnah School” and “Good Manners”. Many of his articles were published in different magazines and newspapers. Dr. Lütfi Doğan is currently the President of Turkish Foundation for the Blind that provides education and social services for the visually impaired in Turkey and he is a member of the governing board or general assembly of some voluntary organizations.
