Dr. Tayyar ALTIKULAÇ

Dr. Tayyar ALTIKULAÇ (09.02.1978 - 10.11.1986)

Dr. Tayyar Altıkulaç was born in Devrekani in Kastamonu in 1938.He went to primary school in the district where he was born and finished secondary and high school in Istanbul. He became a hafiz at the age of 9 before finishing primary school. In 1963, he graduated from High Islamic Institute. He taught at Imam Hatip (Religious) High School until 1965. He was a research assistant and lecturerat the High Islamic Institute in Istanbul and Kayseri. In the meantime, he specialized in Arabic Language and Literature at Baghdad University in the 1967-68 academic year. He completed his doctorate in interpretation.

He was Vice President of Religious Affairs between 15.07.1971 and 07.09.1976, Director General of Religious Education at the Ministry of National Education between 07.09.1976 and 02.11.1977 and a member of Board of Education and Discipline between 02.11.1977 and 09.02.1978. On 09.02.1978 he was appointed President of Religious Affairs.He retired on November 10 1986.

He was granted the title of professor by Azerbaijan National Academy. He was a lecturer at Marmara University in Istanbul and Baku State University Faculty of Theology during his retirement.He was the President of Turkish Religious Foundation Center for Islamic Studies (ISAM).

He was a member of parliament between 1995 and 1999.In 2002 general elections, he was reelected a member of parliament for Istanbul.

His works include Our Holy Book the Quran, Reading and Reciting the Quran,  Zehebi ve Ma'rifetül - Kurra'sı, Ebu Şâme el-Makdisî ve el-Mürşidü’l-Veciz’i , Mushaf-ı Şerif (The Quran) referred to Hz. Osman and a 3 volume book called “Overcoming Difficulties” of his memoirs. Five of his books have been published.

His book called “el Mürşidü’l Veciz”by Ebu Şâme el-Makdisî was printed in Beirut in Arabic. Many of his articles were also published in different magazines and newspapers. Articulacy wrote many copyrighted articles in Turkish Religious Foundation Islamic Encyclopedia and issued communiqués at many international meetings.
