Mehmet Nuri YILMAZ (03.01.1992 - 19.03.2003)
Mehmet Nuri Yılmaz was born in Erzurum in 1943. He memorized the Quran at a young age.He took religious sciences lessons from the late mufti of Erzurum Sakıp Danışman and got his consent. He went to primary, secondary and high school in Erzurum. He graduated from the Faculty of Theology in Erzurum.He earned a master’s degree in interpretation from Ankara University Faculty of Theology.He taught the Quran at the Directorate of Religious Affairs, was a rapporteur and expert at the High board of Religious Affairs and the mufti of Çankaya.
In 1990, he became a member of the High Board of Religious Affairs. On December 11 1991 he was appointed Vice President of Religious Affairs. On January 3, 1992 he became acting President of Religious Affairs. He was officially appointed to this position on 17.09.1992. He retired on March 19 2003.
His printed works include “Meaning of the Quran” and “What is Jurisprudence? Who is an Interpreter of Islamic law?” He also translated the section on “Ahi community and Turkish-Islamic guild in İbn-I Batuta’s Travel Book” and wrote books called “Naskh in the Quran”, “Facts Behind Sunni and Shia Conflict” and “Divorce in the Quran.”
